KDHE public hearing set

May 1, 2008

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment will have a public hearing for a proposed expansion of the lime sludge monofill located at 79th Street and Gardner Road near De Soto in Johnson County.

The meeting will be at 7 p.m. May 8 the Olathe Municipal Services Building,1385 S. Robinson in Olath.

The expansion would add an estimated 33 years of capacity to the landfill at projected disposal rates. This would be accomplished by increasing the permitted disposal area from 30.5 x 30.5 acres to 100.9 x 59.5 acres, but would not exceed an elevation of 786 feet above sea level.

Anyone interested in learning more about the project or providing input to KDHE staff early in the permit application review process is encouraged to attend. The meeting will not cover zoning or land use issues previously addressed by the Johnson County Commission.

For more information regarding the meeting or landfill permit application review, please contact Mike Selm of the KDHE Bureau of Waste Management at (785) 296-0606.
