Investigators with the Olathe Police Department have identified the body of a woman discover Wednesday in the floodplain of the Kansas River east of De Soto as Tammy K. Cochran.

The Kansas City, Kansas Police Department’s Major Case Unit is requesting the public’s assistance in locating Kenneth R. Stubblefield Jr., who is wanted for the Dec. 2, 2007 homicide of Ulises Jaco near 75th Street and State Avenue.

Survey indicates board’s task hard in crafting bond

Last week, the De Soto USD 232 Board of Education learned the results of a $13,800 survey it was hoped would give board members direction in crafting a new bond issue. During late January and early February, DeSieghardt Strategic Communications queried 400 residents by phone.

Change needed in state bird

I was driving Sunday between De Soto and Eudora on the old highway. I frequently take the two-lane road with its 45 mph speed limit because I can take my time and notice things. What I noticed Sunday was division in the clouds that ran from the southwest to the northeast. To the northwest of that division, the clouds were much darker and it was a harbinger of a cool front, which my mother told me dropped temperatures in Paxico 30 degrees from the afternoon high, to the weekend’s warm if blustery weather.

5 years ago FROM THE DE SOTO EXPLORER March 2003 De Soto freshman Neil Erisman was denied a perfect season and state championship when with eight seconds left in his match an official called him for stalling and awarded Colby’s Eric Luedke a point, sending the match into overtime. Erisman’s coach, Eric Deyoe, and the throng of De Soto supporters were stunned as Luedke went on to earn the 3-1 win with a takedown early in the overtime frame.
