De Soto Arts Council incorporates
With the success of last fall's sesquicentennial art show, the members of the De Soto Arts Council have decided to incorporate, introduce the organization to the community and have a second show.
The group will introduce itself to the community at a membership reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Zimmerman's Kill Creek Farm, 9210 Kill Creek Rd. The reception, which will coincide with start of 2008 Zimmerman's Farmers' Market from 5 to 7 p.m., is open to those interested in membership on the council or with an interest in the arts.
Contact Carrie Dvorak at 913-583-3400 if you would like to attend.
Raheema Sampson is the council's chairman: Diana Zwahlen is event chairman; Mary Guntert, finance chairman; Dvorak, marketing and publicity and Nancy Grayson, secretary.
The other event is the second annual De Soto Art Show set for Sept. 25 through 27 at Kill Creek Farm. Entry forms are available by contacting Sampson at (913) 583-3222 or Carrie Dvorak. Forms can also be sent via e-mail.
Steve Mayse, with the Kansas City Art Institute, is this year's judge for the show. Interested artists 18 years or older may submit artwork in any medium. There is no specific theme for the show. The entry deadline is July 31. Cash awards will be given and businesses and individuals are encouraged to sponsor the event. Those who become sponsors will be the first to select from the artwork in the show.
Contact Sampson or Dvorak for more details.
