School bond vote set for November
De Soto School Board OKs $72 million measure for general election ballot
Voters in the De Soto School District will go to the polls Nov. 4 to decide whether to approve a bond issue not to exceed $72 million. Approval of the bond issue would bring:
¢ Expansion of Mill Valley High School to accommodate 1,400 students
¢ Expansion of De Soto High School to accommodate 1,000 students.
¢ Construction of the district's seventh elementary school, with a capacity of 600 students, on district-owned land at 55th Street and Belmont Drive in Shawnee.
De Soto USD 232 Board of Education approved the bond referendum in a 6-1 vote Monday. Randy Johnson, who objected to inclusion of a new gymnasium at De Soto High School and the tax increase needed for the bond issue, was the lone dissenter. However, Johnson said he would not actively campaign against the proposal this fall.
