DHS student wins essay contest
An essay written by De Soto High School student Colin O'Neill has been selected as a winner of the Bill of Rights Institute's Being an American Essay Contest.
Colin now has a chance to be the winner of one of 10 cash prizes including seven honorable mention prizes of $250 each; third prize of $1,250; second prize of $2,500; or first prize of $5,000. In addition, he has been invited on an expenses-paid trip to participate in the Being an American Awards Weekend April 3-5 in Washington, D.C., Colin will participate in a weekend of festivities designed to celebrate the values that unite us as Americans. Social studies teacher Chris McAfee entered Colin's essay and also was invited to Washington, D.C., to participate.
