Design delay postpones Mize, 83rd Street signal
The traffic signal for the intersection of 83rd Street and Mize Boulevard is set to be installed in the next month or so, according to a Lenexa city official.
The traffic signals were last said to be installed in November, but a delay on the design caused the project to get behind schedule, said Hobie Crane, Lenexa senior staff engineer.
"They have submitted plans and we have reviewed them a couple of times," he said. "I know that the poles themselves are on order."
Crane said the traffic signal is going to be completed by the same contractor who completed the street work at the intersection so the city won't have to go out for bids and can save time.
The signals are part of the reconfiguration of the intersection, which included adding turn lanes and improving the sight distance. Currently, the intersection mostly serves the traffic from Mize Elementary School and Mill Creek Middle School. Eventually a third high school will be located on the Mill Creek campus and more homes will be developed in the area, increasing the amount of traffic in the area.
