Clinic gets three month lease extension
The De Soto Family Clinic isn't going to be in its new office suite next month as optimistically planned last year, but it appears that it won't have to temporarily move operations to Shawnee either.
Kathleen McInnis, operations manager for Mid-American Physicians, said the clinic's landlord, Hospital Corporation of America, agreed to extend the clinic's lease for another three months.
All permits and financing is in place for the new office to be built in The Commons on Commerce Drive, McInnis said. However, the frigid weather has made it impossible to pour the footings needed to move ahead with the construction of the new office complex, which also will be the home of Cedar Creek Pharmacy.
"Right now, we're waiting," McInnis said. "Every time the sun comes out we get excited but then the freeze hits again."
Shannan Nelson, the developer of The Commons, is estimating a 120-day construction schedule, McInnis said. Clinic officials are now hoping to move into the new office in June, she said.
