USD 232 board incumbents yes, no, maybe on another run
With a national election just two months ago, the De Soto School District is gearing up for the spring election for three board positions.
Representatives for Positions 4, 5 and 6 are up for election April 7. Each position has a four-year term.
While the filing deadline to run for the De Soto School board, Jan.27, is less than a month away no residents of the district have filed, including the incumbents.
That’s not to say the current board members won’t be running for re-election.
Janine Gracy, board representative for Position 5, said she would file for re-election soon, but hasn’t had the time to do so yet.
“I think the learning curve is steep on the school board and you get your sea-legs under you and I feel that I have a lot to offer from what I’ve learned in the last four years,” she said.
Meanwhile, current Board President, Larry Meyer, who represents Position 6, said he was still pondering whether or not to seek re-election.
“I just kind of enjoyed the holidays and taking a break,” Meyer said. “I’m not saying either way.”
Position 4 board member, Randy Johnson, De Soto, has said at several board meeting he will not seek reelection.
School board elections will be held along with the general spring election on April 4. However, if more than two residents file for the same position, a primary election will be conducted March 3. Primary elections are limited to voters who reside in that a position seat’s boundary. During the general election voters can chose candidates for all districts up for election.
