Talent sought for De Soto art shows

December 23, 2008

The De Soto Art Council and Rotary Club would like to introduce the community to the talent in its midst.

The organizations will sponsor De Soto Center Stage on April 11, 2009, at the De Soto Community Center. And although that date is just less than four months distant, those wishing to participate in the performance talent showcase should start rehearsing their presentations.

Tryouts for the performance art showcase, which will be open to everyone living in De Soto USD 232, are scheduled for Jan. 10 and 17 at the De Soto Senior Center, 32905 W. 84th Street. Auditions will be from 9 a.m. to noon and resume after a lunch break at 1:15 p.m. Call-back auditions may be required.

Audition performances will be limited to five minute (set up is not counted in the time limit), and individuals can participate in more than one performing group.

Organizers will inform performers by Jan. 24 if they are in the finals.

The fine arts show will be limited to kindergarten through 12th-grade youngsters and works for the show must be submitted by April 10, 2009, at De Soto City Hall.

The kindergarten to eighth-grade show is open to two-dimensional works of any medium that do not exceed 12-by-18 inches. First-. Second- and third-place ribbons will be awarded and all entries will receive a certificate of participation.

The ninth- through 12th-grade show will accept two- or three-dimensional works that don’t exceed 36-by-36 inches. Cash prizes will be given to the first-, second- and third-place entries and all participants will receive a certification of participation.
