Sales tax question winning; Kline losing
A ballot question asking Johnson County voters to approve a 1/4-cent sales tax for public safety measures is winning passage in early returns.
Advance voting ballots counted this evening show the measure winning, 14,036 to 8,606.
Also in early balloting, challenger Steve Howe was defeating incumbent Phill Kline, 10,604 votes to 5,769, for the Republican nomination.
In other races, Nick Jordan was easily outpolling Paul Showen in the Republican primary for 3rd District U.S. Congress, 10,775 to 3,643. In the 10th State Senate Democratic primary, Michael Bolton was leading Pete Roman, 520 to 472. On the Republican side, Mary Pilcher Cook had 1,429 votes to Sue Gamble's 1,319. In the 23rd House District Republican race, August Bogina III led John Crabtree, 297-186.
