DHS student receives scholarship

April 24, 2008

Ashley Sweeney, a junior at De Soto High School in Johnson County, Kansas, won a $1,500 scholarship from the Kansas City chapter of Executive Women International. Sweeney was awarded the top prize at the chapter's 34th annual scholarship dinner on April 16 in Kansas City, Mo.

Sweeney will now move on to the regional competition and may have a chance to compete for a $10,000 national scholarship.

Sweeney plans to attend Baylor University or Duke University and major in pre-medicine with a focus on cellular biology.

The Executive Women International Scholarship Program is coordinated by the participating EWI Chapters to help qualified applicants achieve their academic goals. The annual scholarship competition is open to high school juniors with the opportunity to compete at the chapter level and possibly compete at the corporate level.
