- Ashley Sweeney, a junior at De Soto High School in Johnson County, Kansas, won a $1,500 scholarship from the Kansas City chapter of Executive Women International. Sweeney was awarded the top prize at the chapter’s 34th annual scholarship dinner on April 16 in Kansas City, Mo.

The De Soto varsity tennis squad went down to Ottawa’s tournament and won the event as a team, placing first in No. 1 singles and doubles and No. 2 singles. It was the third consecutive year the team had done so.

De Soto was well represented at last weekend’s Kansas Relays, as it competed in 11 total events on Friday and Saturday. Eight of those were relay races and coach Brian Dinkel wasn’t sure how pleased he was with the performance as a whole.
