Bullets found in Monticello Trails Middle School
Two 9 mm bullets were found in Monticello Trails Middle School Wednesday.
De Soto USD 232 community relations director Alvie Cater said the bullets were found during the school day in the hallway and in the commons area.
The school immediately notified the Shawnee Police Department.
Following the discovery of the bullets, the school was searched and no weapons were found, Cater said.
"A thorough search of the school was conducted and no weapons were found," he said.
The district notified parents about the discovery by e-mail. Monticello Trails principal Tobie Waldeck had a notice to parents on the school's Web site.
"Our school district takes very seriously matters that impact the safety of your children," Waldeck said in his notice. "I assure you that we will not tolerate threatening behaviors that place students and staff in jeopardy. This is also an opportunity for you to visit with your children about school safety."
Cater said the district has a zero-tolerance policy for weapons. Shawnee police are investigating the case.
