Obituary: Elmer E. Jenks

Services for Elmer Eugene Jenks, 69, De Soto, were Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Burial with military honors was at Monticello Cemetery in Shawnee.

Mr. Jenks died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007, at Leavenworth VA Hospital.

He was born Dec. 6, 1937, in Merriam, the son of Albert James and Cecil Johnson Jenks. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1957. He was a lifelong area resident.

Mr. Jenks served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1966. He was a homebuilder and carpenter and retired in 2000.

He was a member of Monticello Methodist Church, De Soto V.F.W. and Kaw Valley Sportsman Association.

He married Reta Marie Guffey in 1960 in De Soto. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Karen Rodgers-Hines, De Soto, Shelby Wheatley, Edgerton, and Diana Kearney, Gardner; two brothers, Albert "Bud" Jenks, Baldwin City, and Jerry Jenks, St. Charles, Mo.; four grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

A brother, Steven Jenks, preceded him in death.

The family suggests memorials to the De Soto V.F.W. or the Kaw Valley Sportsman Association, sent in care of the Bruce Funeral Home, P.O. Box 192, Gardner 66030.
