The Double Bind
By Chris Bohjalian
When Laurel was a sophomore in college she was attacked while riding her bicycle through rural Vermont, changing her life forever. She withdrew from social situations and spent more time alone with her photography.
After college she began working at a homeless shelter and eventually met Bobbie Crocker, a man with a history of mental illness and a box of photographs that he wouldn't let anyone see. She becomes fascinated with the pictures and with Bobbie's life.
The fascination turns to obsession when she began to believe the photographs will lead her to a dark family secret intertwined with her own.
