Referendum deadline noon Tuesday
Voters in the De Soto School District have less than one week to return their ballots on the $70.5 million school bond referendum.
The Johnson County Election Office must receive ballots by noon Tuesday.
The referendum asks voters to answer to questions. Question I asks for $51 million for projects including school expansions, security additions, an Early Childhood Center and land acquisition. Question II asks for $19.5 million for artificial turf and performing arts centers and both high schools.
As of Sept. 7, 17,489 ballots were issued and 5,220 have been returned.
Preliminary election results will be available Sept. 18. Official results, including provisional ballots, will be reported Sept. 24.
The cost of the mail ballot is about $2.50 per registered voter, which would total about $43,722.50 for the district.
