Good people do live in Kansas
Every day I remind my children "what goes around, comes around." You "do the right thing," without expectation of reward, and you "take care of people" just as you want them to take care of you" and to "Pay it Forward" by doing good deeds to others.
Oct. 5 I lost my billfold with all my credit cards, money and personal information on the way to work in Lawrence. This was not noticed until midmorning, when I returned to the last known location and it was not there. I happened to check my personal e-mail, and noticed an e-mail about my billfold.
Jonathan Benham, Graphics Coordinator of Huhtamaki Americas in De Soto, had noticed that there was something lying on Kansas 10 Highway on his way to work. He turned around, picked up what he could find, and continued onto work. He contacted my insurance carrier from the insurance card and BJ Kelly at my insurance company sent me an email and provided me with his number.
Mr. Benham then came back to Lawrence during his lunch hour to help me search the K-10 area for the rest of the materials that had spread more than 250 feet. He told me later that he almost did not stop, but remembered when his wife had lost her purse and the help that she had received from a stranger.
The concern, care, and thoughtfulness of both Jonathan Benham and BJ Kelly will be remembered in my house for a long time. Thank you both for being concrete examples of the best of us.
