Eight Cats named to all-Frontier squads
Eight Wildcats were named to the all-Frontier League teams, earning the honor in what proved to be one of the most competitive divisions in the state.
The league's 13 teams were divided into upper and lower divisions for the final time for the 2007 football season, and two of the teams De Soto battled in the upper division -- Baldwin and Louisburg -- went on to play in the Class 4A state semifinals.
Louisburg fell to Andale Saturday in the 4A state championship game in Salina, 31-14.
Erik Hill earned first team all-league honors for his play at quarterback in 2007.
Hill, an all-league tight end as a junior in 2006, took over at quarterback in the offseason and in addition to running the ball, complimented a four-headed rushing attack with a strong arm.
De Soto's Jamell Townsend was honored twice on the list. First, the junior in his first season at De Soto was honored as the first-team punter.
He was also selected as an honorable mention wide receiver.
Senior Shane Miller was also listed twice, both as a running back -- another of the four ball carriers that powered the Cats' offense -- and as a safety.
Mike Sprowl, Logan Clark and Clinton Smethers received second-team honors and Jake Randell was recognized as honorable mention.
