Moore re-elected chamber president
The De Soto Chamber of Commerce officer will be familiar to members who went to a meeting in the last year.
The chamber's four 2007 officers were re-elected to their post at the chamber's monthly meeting last Thursday at Huhtamaki Americas Inc. in De Soto.
Chamber President David Moore of De Soto Team Bank said he agreed to serve a second year as president of the organization because he thought 2008 would be a special year.
"Last year, we had another successful blues festival, plus we took over the Cooking on the Kaw (barbecue contest)," he said. "This year we're combining the two and having them at the new riverfront park. I wanted to see that through. And it's going to take a lot of work."
The appeal of working with the city to complete the new park and with the planning for the downtown revitalization streetscape project as motivated him to serve another year, Moore said. He said he was excited about how the two projects could work together to boost downtown.
Other issue for chamber involvement include adding more rooftops and bringing businesses to De Soto that offer necessities, including a new grocery store.
His other goals for the coming year were continued support and service for chamber members and another 12 months of membership growth, Moore said.
Moore said he was pleased with the decision of the other officers to stand for re-election. Like Moore, Vice President Jill Wilks of Team Bank, Secretary Kathy Beck of Beck & Associates and Treasurer Jennifer Chick were re-elected without opposition for another year.
