Lately I have had interest in the amount of kids having to drop out of school or failing school. In the past years, the number of failure to meet requirements and drop outs have skyrocketed. Over the last decade, between 347,000 and 544,000 10th- through 12th-grade students left school each year without successfully completing a high school program.
Why has this been happening? I don't think the reason is the too easy excuse, "Kids just don't care." Most of the real problem comes with the stress teenagers endure everyday that may be overwhelming for some and that's why this is important.
What parents and adults may not understand is that since their teen years, there are a million more things to worry about.
This may cause it to go unnoticed or disregarded by using the "kids just don't care" anymore excuse. What can be done to help or fix this is to have a good relationship with your student or child. Close mindedness is the killer in today's social society and the best thing you can do is listen. Try and understand no matter how much you don't. I think everyone needs a break sometimes and it shouldn't go unnoticed.
