Sesquicentennial snapshot

May 10, 2007

A group of gypsies entered an award-winning float in De Soto's 1907 Fourth of July Parade. The gypsies were actually Agnes Jewett Linden (the mother of Bob Linden and Zola Stephan) in wagon seat and Libbie (a cousin) to the right of her and Gladys Jewett Colescott in front of them. Standing left to right beside the wagon is Ruth Jewett Hiddleston and cousins Merle and Nellie Weidlein. Agnes, Gladys and Ruth Jewett were all sisters. Agnes and Ruth remained in De Soto all their lives, and Gladys moved to Colorado.
