Letter: Students come first

March 29, 2007

I want to clear up some misconceptions regarding my vision for the De Soto USD 232. My first priority is, and always will be, the best possible education for our children. We're well on our way to achieving that goal.

We have a great district with parents who care about quality education, and great teachers that care about improving education. The priorities of the school board need to be examined: our teachers are the lowest paid in Johnson County, yet our administrators continue to garner more pay. I believe the teachers are more important in improving education than the administrators. Our teachers are on the front line, and we must listen to them to improve our children's education. We can spend millions on constructing the most beautiful school buildings in the world, and that will not improve the education of one student.

Let me make one thing perfectly clear -- I care about children, parents, teachers and our taxpayers. It takes a school board willing to work with a community.
