Sheriff’s Academy taking applications
Johnson County Sheriff Frank Denning is inviting the public to learn more about his office and modern law enforcement.
In an effort to achieve his goal of an informed public, his office is accepting applications for upcoming Sheriff's Citizens Academy classes. The Sheriff's Citizens Academy is an in-depth and transparent overview of the activities of the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and the deputies who staff it.
This academy consists of more than 45 hours of instruction conducted on 13 consecutive Tuesday nights from 6 to 9:30 p.m.
The academy also offers an optional three-hour experience at the sheriff's pistol range. This class is conducted on a Saturday morning during the 13 weeks under the watchful eye of certified range instructors.
The academy is open to any Johnson County citizen 18 years old or older who passes a background check. Applicants must also provide personal references.

Approved applicants will be placed on a waiting list for academy openings.
