Services for Melissa M. Chandley, 25, Edwardsville, were Tuesday, June 19, at Judson Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kan. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Ms. Chandley died Friday, June 15, 2007, at St. Luke's Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 29, 1982, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Mark and Martha Chandley. She was a lifelong area resident.
Miss Chandley was valedictorian of the 2000 graduating class of Bonner Springs High School. She received her bachelor's degree from Kansas University in 2004, and graduated from KU's School of Education in 2005.
She was active in many activities, including vocal music in high school, Banner Carrier and treasurer for the School of Education at KU, and recipient of The National Advisory Board Senior Leadership Award. She was a member of Judson Baptist Church, directing Vacation Bible School for the last 10 years, teaching children's church, and was a member of Icthus. She was also a member of the National Education Association.
Miss Chandley was a third-grade teacher at Prairie Ridge Elementary School in Shawnee, which is part of De Soto USD 232.
Survivors include her parents, Mark and Martha Chandley of the home; a sister, Melanie Lynn Chandley of the home; aunts and uncles, Stephen and Linda Patterson of Monroe, N.C.; Maurice and Suzanne Chandley of Hutchinson, Kan.; and Ron and Susan Kelly of Mexico, Mo.; and 12 cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Stuart and Marie Chandley and Pat and Mildred Patterson.
