High Country
By Neveda Barr
Fiction (2004)

This time Anna Pigeon is working undercover to discover what has happened to three young people who mysteriously disappeared from Yosemite National Park.

She's working as a waitress, of all things, but manages to get out and about and get herself into several life-threatening situations involving guns, knives and all manners of nefarious characters when she finds a crashed plane in the middle of a frozen lake. No report of a downed airplane was made, and no flight plan is on file for it.

In yet another page-turner, Nevada Barr continues to be an outstanding mystery writer who includes strong female characters, interesting settings, and "edge-of-your-seat" excitement without too much gore.
