Wilma L. Carpenter
Graveside services for Wilma L. Carpenter, 90, De Soto, were Wednesday, July 25, at De Soto Cemetery.
Mrs. Carpenter died Sunday, July 22, 2007, at Hillside Nursing Center in De Soto.
She was born Oct. 14, 1916, in Gravois Mills, Mo., the daughter of William Oliver and Molinda Silvey James.
During World War II, she worked at Sunflower Ammunitions Plant. She worked for 12 years for Sunflower Drug Company. She and her husband moved to Kansas City, Kan., and she worked as a pharmaceutical clerk for McPike Drug Co., in Kansas City, Mo., retiring in 1970.
Mrs. Carpenter moved to Olathe for 15 years before returning to De Soto.
She was a member of the Versailles (Mo.) Baptist Church and was active in the American Legion and the Veteran's Administration Hospital.
She married Ralph E. Carpenter in 1933 in Sedalia, Mo. He died in 1974.
Survivors include a son, James D. Carpenter, Shell Knob, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Dolores R. Carpenter Ivandick, Melbourne, Fla.; a stepson Keith E. Carpenter, Sun City, Calif.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; seven step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great-grandchild.
Four siblings, John, Woodrow, Donan and Pauline; two grandchildren; and a step great-grandchild preceded her in death.
