John D. Lawyer
Services for John D. Lawyer, 77, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.
Mr. Lawyer died Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Hillside Village Nursing home in De Soto.
He was born Dec. 28, 1929, in Concordia, the son of Harry and Dorothy Wiltse Lawyer. He graduated from Concordia High School.
Mr. Lawyer served in the U.S. National Guard. He worked as a printer at Concordia Blade Empire, Allen Press in Lawrence and retired from the Kansas University Print Shop. He was a coin collector and supporter of the Democratic Party.
He married Bonnie Jean Vanek on Nov. 21, 1949, in Concordia. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include his mother, Dorothy K. Lawyer, Concordia; a son, John D. Lawyer Jr., Topeka; two daughters, Vicky L. Viner, Shawnee, and Christy A. Osborn, Leeton, Mo.; a sister, Jean Brown, Bonner Springs; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Lawyer was preceded in death by a grandson.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until services Friday.
The family suggests memorials to Heart of America Hospice of Topeka or the Democratic Party, sent in care of the funeral home.
