College notes
The names of more than 1,500 candidates for degrees in the fall 2006 semester at Kansas University have been announced by the registrar's office.
Graduate and undergraduate degrees are conferred in December based on work completed during the fall semester. Because KU conducts only one formal commencement ceremony each year, many graduating in the fall and summer terms return for commencement exercises May 20.
Rebecca Hawkins and Melissa Pelkey, both of De Soto, and De Soto High School graduates Kyle Watts and Emily Williams received degrees.
Hawkins received a bachelor of arts in mathematics. Pelkey received a bachelor of general studies in English.
Watts received a bachelor of science in business and marketing and Williams received a bachelor of science in biology.

Carmen Layne Garcia, De Soto, was one of several area residents who earned a bachelor of science degree in education during Emporia State University's fall commencement Dec. 16.
