February 15, 2007
Those elected to the De Soto USD 232 Board of Education April 3 will have the job of deciding how the district will add classroom space as enrollment continues to grow. The selection process starts Feb. 27 when district voters narrow the list of candidates for the at-large position from four to two and eliminate one of the candidates running for the Position 2 seat.

Plenty of decisions await as coach mulls ways to replace Morse
February 15, 2007
It’s like an injury, De Soto football coach Brad Scott said. He said through each of his seven seasons as the head Wildcat he’s planned to lose key players to injury, so when his starting quarterback of two seasons, junior Jake Morse, transferred in January to Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Mo., he chalked it up as one of those injuries.

Leavenworth County southern link moves ahead despite opposition
February 15, 2007
One Leavenworth County resident is ready for “civil war” to stop a proposed highway interchange at the intersection of Leavenworth County Road 1 and the Kansas Turnpike. The improved road could link to a north-south highway in western Johnson County through the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant. That road is shown on the county’s Country Arterial Road Network Plan but not yet designed or funded. Together, the two proposed projects would link Interstate 35 with the Turnpike.

The 2006-2007 wrestling season is likely to be chalked up as a lesson learned for the struggling De Soto team. Todd Atchison’s fifth-place finish in Saturday’s Frontier League tournament showed that this team isn’t only thinking of the future, however.

It’s can’t be high gear — that’s where De Soto senior Kira Gonzalez has been all season. The level she’s raised her game to over the last several weeks must be overdrive. Whatever it’s called, it’s been a relief to the Wildcats. De Soto beat Central Heights Friday, 42-25, stringing together the team’s first winning streak since the third and fourth games of the season.
