Road rough for wrestlers at JoCo Classic
December 20, 2007
Rain, sleet and snow - especially snow - couldn't stop the De Soto wrestling team over the weekend.
The tough as nails field of the 30th annual Johnson County Classic managed to do what Mother Nature couldn't, however.
Despite Friday and Saturday's snow, the wrestling team made the trip to Blue Valley High School in Overland Park for both days of the tournament. Two Wildcats emerged with match victories.
Donny Parr, a 160-pound wrestler, won his first match of the season on his third try at the tournament. He beat Javier Fernandez of Shawnee Mission North 1-0.
De Soto's Brandon Vukas, wrestling in the 145-pound bracket, also won his first match of the season.
Vukas beat Chris Dold of Bishop Miege, earning the pin one minute, 48 seconds into the first round.
The team also wrestled Wednesday night, but results weren't available at press time.
