It should have been the easiest part of his job for two reasons. Still De Soto tennis coach Michael Sullivan spent Monday afternoon sweating — definitely sweating — his varsity lineup. This, first despite the fact that few tennis coaches in the state return such a full, experienced roster, and second, that the problem is supposed to just play itself out.

Between taps, the ball floats up near his chest or on past his head, consistently returning to his foot for another boost. He underscores every easy hit with a cold glare at the camera.

The De Soto girls cross country team has spent the last year coming to terms with being Class 4A’s state champion. Now De Soto coach Chris McAfee said he’s hoping the squad can remember what all it took to make that a reality. Bond addresses safety

I am so excited about the current bond issue in the De Soto USD 232 School District. I have children at Clear Creek Elementary and Mill Valley High schools and have become accustomed to the secure main entrances at our elementary and middle schools and am so pleased that security entrances will be added to both of the high schools and Lexington Trails Middle School.

De Soto school district officials will have an informational meeting on the bond at 7 p.m. Wednesday at De Soto High School. A second meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 at Mill Valley High School.

County’s proposed intersection realignment criticized during rezoning consideration

De Soto City Council gave the nod to rezone a site off an intersection to a key entry point to the city, but gave thumbs down to a county plan to realign the same intersection.

Just 32 votes short of passing last November, the school bond issue is back giving us a much needed second chance to do right by our children, schools and communities. The De Soto USD 232 Board of Education focused only on the district’s most dire needs; cutting the previous $105.7 million bond issue by a third. Voters will be presented with two separate questions: Proposition No. 1 for $51 million and Proposition No. 2 for $19.5 million.
