Obituary: Margaret E. Bodine

Services for Margaret Elizabeth Carr Bodine, 88, Scranton, were Friday, Aug. 10, 2007, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Scranton with the Rev. Richard Storey officiating. Burial was in Scranton Cemetery.

Mrs. Bodine died Aug. 3, 2007, in Ridgefield, Wash.

She was born Feb. 15, 1919, in Franklin, the daughter of John Marshall and Josephine Catherine Carr. Her family moved several times while she was growing up before settling in Scranton.

Mrs. Bodine served as clerk, secretary, bookkeeper and accountant at Forbes Air Force Supply Depot in Topeka for 10 years. After the depot closed, she worked in accounting for several local corporations and businesses before becoming the city clerk of Scranton.

As her children grew, Mrs. Bodine was active in the PTA and 4-H Club. She also was a Cub Scout den mother and a school board member.

She served as church organist and soloist for more than 40 years at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She also was an active member and held various offices in the Ladies Auxiliary to the Edward "Ted" Rowe VFW Post 2709 and the Scranton Lions Club.

After retirement, she remained involved in civic activities and wrote articles for the local newspaper.

She married Louis Mark Bodine in Scranton in 1936. He died earlier.

A son, Barry Wayne Bodine; a brother, Kenneth Carr; two sisters, Ozeith Line and Ula Finley; and a grandson, Michael Bodine, also preceded her in death.

Survivors include five sons, John Terrance Bodine, Scranton, Gerald Mark Bodine, Green Valley, Ariz., Larry Paul Bodine, San Diego, Calif., Louis Kerry Bodine, De Soto, and Harry Kieth "Keeter" Bodine, Topeka; a daughter, Mary Catherine, Ridgefield, Wash.; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials in her name to St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the Edward "Ted" Row Post No. 2709, or the Scranton Lions Club, sent in care of Carey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 196, Burlingame 66413.
