Local 4-H’ers earn State Fair trip
The Pioneer 4-H Club recently sent two of its members to the Kansas State Fair.
Breanna Sigman, De Soto, and Clarissa Shields, Lenexa, qualified for the state fair by receiving a blue or higher during the summer dog shows.
Breanna showed her dog, Dakota, in obedience and received a blue. She showed her second dog Kylie in obedience and agility and obtained a blue and a purple.
According to Breanna, agility is her favorite event. She said she loves to run her dog through the obstacles.
Clarissa showed her dog, Max in showmanship, obedience and agility.
She received two blues and a white.
Clarissa said she enjoyed the agility class because she loved to run the obstacle course.
The showmanship class emphasizes how well the handler has groomed their dog and how well they work as a team. In the obedience class, the dog is required to follow their handler's commands, such as heal, halt, sit and down.
Breanna and Clarissa showed in advanced obedience classes which require them to work off-lead with their dogs. In the agility class, the handler and the dog go through obstacles, such as a teeter totter, tunnels and jumps.
