FlexRide celebration Tuesday
The city of De Soto, the De Soto Transportation Task Force Committee, Johnson County Transit and the Mr. Goodcents Foundation will mark the successful launch of the De Soto FlexRide bus service with a celebration ceremony Tuesday.
The ceremony will begin with lunch at noon at the De Soto Neighborhood Senior Center, 32905 West 84th St., and live entertainment from the Old Time Pickers and Singers. The kick-off celebration continues at 12:30 p.m. with guest speakers from the community.
The bus service began July 25 of this year and has shown a steady growth in ridership since its inauguration.
The De Soto FlexRide is a local bus route serving the community of De Soto and making excursions on Tuesday to Shawnee Station. The route is open to the public and can be boarded at the designated bus stops or giving a hand signal along the route. Also, with phoned reservations in advance, the service will "flex" from the regular route to pick up riders within the city of De Soto even if the trip deviates from the normal route.
The FlexRide operates from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Some of the popular stops for the FlexRide bus service include Clearview City, Prospector's Point, De Soto Library, De Soto Senior Center, Morse's Market, Valley Springs, Monticello Shops and Shawnee Station.
