Chamber scores big in September
The De Soto Chamber of Commerce had a good month in September.
Chamber executive director Sara Ritter said two fund-raisers raised about $6,000 for the organization.
The Sept. 23 blues and barbecue should put about $5,000 in the chamber's coffers when all bills are paid. The chamber followed that with a second-straight year of success at the Kansas Speedway's annual Chamber Day at the Speedway. The De Soto Chamber turned out the second highest percentage of members of the nearly 30 metropolitan area chambers at the event.
Ritter said the second-place finish -- the second year in a row the chamber earned the second-place honor -- earned De Soto $200. But more importantly, the chamber was able to keep $10 for each of the 70 tickets sold for the event for another $800, she said.
"It came at a great time," Ritter said. "You come near the end of the year and non-profits start planning how they can make it through the year, so this was great timing for us."
