Students selected for honors band, choir
Two De Soto High School band students were selected for the 2007 Kansas John Philip Sousa junior honors bands. The bands are statewide honor bands made up of students in seventh through ninth grades. The bands are divided into two groups, blue (top band) and red (second band).
More than 300 students submitted taped auditions for the groups that will perform at Kansas University in January.
Selected DHS students are Becca Roberts, 13th chair clarinet (red band) and Alex Crall, fourth chair trombone (blue band).
De Soto High School senior Leslie Hodges and sophomore Gretchyn Reeves were selected for the Northeast Kansas Music Educator's Association District Honor Choir.
This is the third year for Hodges and first year for Reeves to attain the honor.
The students were chosen out of 600 in the region, who sang Nov. 11 before a blind panel of judges. There were 18 students chosen from schools 4A or smaller. Hodges and Reeves are now eligible for the state honor choir.
Winners will be announced in December or January.
Mary Etta Copeland is the DHS choir director.
The 240-member honor choir will perform at 2:40 p.m. Dec. 2 at Blue Valley High School.
