Postal delay causes low fund-raiser turnout
De Soto Youth Ministries would like to apologize to anyone who planned to attend their annual "Christmas at the Crossing" fund-raising event Nov. 17, but did not receive an invitation until after the event.
More than 800 invitations were mailed Oct. 31, but were delayed at the Kansas City, Mo., Post Office.
In spite of the delay, which caused a loss of guests, 150 people attended the auction to raise funds for teen programs.
De Soto Youth Ministries co-owner Donna Wilting said the event raised a profit of around $9,000; which is less than the previous year. However, she said they were grateful for the funds and that community members who received late invitations were still making donations.
