Christmas of yesteryear

November 22, 2006

Experience how school-aged children celebrated Christmas in 1904 by visiting Christmas at Lanesfield School. The schoolhouse will be decorated for a 1904 Christmas complete with paper chains strung from the ceiling and hand-made ornaments dangling from the tree.
The holiday season at Lanesfield School will be from Saturday to Dec. 31.
The Lanesfield School Historic Site is open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays. Groups of ten or more are asked to call (913) 893-6645 for reservations.
For a more in-depth glimpse of rural Christmas, visitors are encouraged to attend Lanesfield's special event, "A Country School Christmas," from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 2.
It's an afternoon-long celebration complete with a visit from Santa and Christmas carols performed by local school children. In the event of bad weather, a snow date for the event will be Dec. 9.
Both events are free to the public.
Lanesfield School Historic Site is located at 18745 S. Dillie Road, Edgerton.
