UPDATE — Big inning dooms De Soto softball

May 1, 2006

De Soto scored two runs in the seventh inning, but couldn't make up for a monster Louisburg sixth inning as the Cats fell, 5-2.

Lindsey Williams hammered an RBI double in the seventh and De Soto scored again on a wild pitch, but a few minutes of quality hitting couldn't make up for a game of ineffective offense.

De Soto coach Kelly Dennis said she was happy with the effort she saw from starting pitcher Jessica Pennington and the Wildcat defense, but without a better approach at the plate, there was little De Soto could do.

It all came unraveled as Louisburg broke up a scoreless game with one run in the fifth. Louisburg then cleared the bags in a bases loaded situation thanks to hard hit ball into the outfield that wasn't fielded well.

"I thought Jessica pitched one of her best games," Dennis said. "Defensively we were good, even in the big inning."
