Medicare Part D used to attempt scams

March 23, 2006

Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas is warning of scam artists working in Kansas. They target people with Medicare and use the new prescription drug program Medicare Part D, as the conversation starter.
A scam targeting veterans is also being attempted. The scam involves callers who say they're working for the "Patient Care Group." They claim that VA recently changed procedures for dispensing prescriptions and ask for the veteran's credit card number, which is not true.
Veterans with questions about VA services should call the nearest VA Medicare Center or call (877) 222-8387.
Seniors should never given information over the phone such as bank account numbers, credit card numbers, social security numbers or Medicare numbers.
Those who think they have received a call from a scam artist are asked to call the Senior Health Insurance Counseling of Kansas at (800) 860-5260 or the Kansas Attorney General's office at (800) 432-2310.
