KVSA to have annual fishing derby
The Kaw Valley Sportsman Association will have its annual kids fishing derby from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Steve Prudden's pond at 95th and Kill Creek Road in De Soto.
The derby is free for youth ages 1- to 15-years-old.
Plaques for first, second and third place will be given and a drawing for rod and reels in each of the four age groups will take place.
Free hot dogs and drinks will be provided after the contest.
Co-sponsors for the event are De Soto VFW, Bill and Barbara Philips, and Larry and Nancy Hood, new owners of the bait shop on Kansas Highway 32 and Leavenworth County Road 1.
Worms will be furnished or anglers can bring any live bait. Because of safety concerns, artificial bait is not allowed.
