Downtown revitalization sessions set for Friday
De Soto Economic Development Council and Chamber of Commerce director Sara Ritter is urging all downtown business and property owners to stop by City Hall Friday with questions, suggestions, criticisms and open minds.
Marty Shukert of RDG Consultants, who is working on the downtown De Soto revitalization project, will be in De Soto from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at De Soto City Hall, 32905 W. 84th St.
An urban planner and former city planner for the city of Omaha, Shukert visited De Soto last October and again in June. At the conclusions of both visits, he sketched out concepts for the revitalization of the eastern old-town district from Ottawa to the east Y.
His last conceptual plan, which would have the city sell Miller Park to finance a larger park and other improvement, drew a lot of comment, Ritter said.
Since that time, Shukert has developed other options, which he will share at the session.
The session is informal with no set program, but allows for residents and business owners -- with an emphasis on the 83rd Street section of De Soto -- to drop in at their convenience to provide input on the effort.
In late August, a public forum will take place to unveil the concepts being discussed.
