Girl injured at pool
An accident at the De Soto Aquatic Center brought two Kansas City metropolitan area TV station helicopters to town last Thursday but fortunately the young girl involved wasn't seriously injured.
Pool manager Justin Huslig said the accident occurred when an 8-year-old girl tried to back off the high diving board after attempting to dive from it for the first time. As the girl was exited, she either slipped or dove from the board, hitting the pool's edge, he said.
The pool's lifeguards immediately started emergency procedures, which included evacuating the pool.
"Everything went like it was supposed to," Huslig said.
Huslig said the girl's father reported since the incident that she was doing fine.
The helicopters arrived in De Soto after hearing of the fall on scanners, Huslig said.
