Youth football sign ups
De Soto Youth Football Association will have sign ups for players between kindergarten and sixth grade from 2 to 3 p.m. July 20 at De Soto High School, 35000 W. 91st St., and from 1 to 6 p.m. July 22 at De Soto Aquatic Center, 32905 W. 84th St.
The Association sponsors a tackle program through the Kaw Valley Football League for players between third and sixth grade who live in the De Soto High School attendance area.
Players between kindergarten and second grade may play on flag football (five-on-five) teams through the association offered by the Olathe YMCA.
The association organizes fund-raising and sponsorship opportunities to help defray the costs.
The football season begins with practices in early August and runs through the end of October. All practices for DYFA teams take in De Soto, mostly at the fields on the De Soto High School campus.
"Last year we enjoyed great support from the community and hosted two home tackle football games at the high school across our age groups," De Soto Youth Football Association president Pete Buffkin said. "We had around 100 players participate in our teams from kindergarten to sixth grade and we believe that number will grow this year."
