All-area teams chosen
The all-area girls and boys track teams and the softball and baseball teams were selected recently by the Lawrence Journal-World sports staff and were based heavily on voting by area coaches and performances throughout the season.
All area coaches had an opportunity to vote for first-team, second-team and honorable mention honors.

All-area softball
Tonganoxie High School coaches Debbie Himpel and Craig Lohman were named Coaches of the Year. The duo led the Chieftains in their best season in school history -- a 20-4 record, a share of the Kaw Valley League championship and a debut appearance in the Class 4A state tournament.
Ottawa High School senior Megan Ramsey was named the All-Area Softball Player of the Year.
Ramsey's final numbers: a 50-11 career record, a career 0.48 ERA and 765 strikeouts -- including more than 200 each of her first three seasons and she carried Ottawa to the state title in 2003 and the team made another appearance the following season.
