Library news

February 9, 2006

Patrons will be able to "Make-and-Take" Valentines from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday at the De Soto Library.

  • Youth ages 12 to 18 can participate in "Try Tie Dye" at 4 p.m. Feb. 16 at the library. There is no school that day. Everything including the T-shirts will be supplied. Space is limited. Registration begins Feb. 2.

  • An adult winter reading contest is currently taking place at the De Soto Library.

"Read Around the World in 90 Days" is this year's theme for the program, which ends March 31.

Those who read six books from one of seven categories will be entered in the De Soto prize drawing. Reading logs are available at all library branches and online.

  • Homework help is available from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays through May 16 at the De Soto Library.

The program provides homework coaches, trained community volunteers and library staff, who are available to assist students after school. The library provides a space for students to complete their daily assignments. The program's goal is to teach students how to use library resources to complete their homework assignments.

The De Soto Library offers an adult book discussion at 1 p.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

The group chooses a book -- anything from classics to murder mysteries to romance.

For more information, call the library at 583-3106.

  • The De Soto Library hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursdays; and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
