Attitude, focus key two wins
February 2, 2006
It’s the most obvious in the fourth quarter. With his team gathered around him, no matter if De Soto is sitting on a small lead or trying to surmount a large one, that’s when you can tell Wildcat coach Jim Bonar said. That’s when it’s obvious this team is different.
Erisman slips at Baldwin
February 2, 2006
There were plenty of excuses available to De Soto senior Neil Erisman. After losing for just the fifth time in his storied high school career, Erisman could have pointed out that his competitor, Oak Park, Mo.’s Brent Haynes is one of Missouri’s best and a national champion. He could have pointed to an unlucky slip of the leg that allowed Haynes to earn a point when Erisman appeared to be en route to his 35th victory of the season.

Gift of mild weather brings unease
February 2, 2006
Weather, always an easy conversation starter, has shoved its way into nearly every casual conversation. The last week seems to have been the tipping point when the run of mild weather grew from a curiosity to a phenomena, as outside our experience and expectations in its way as the drought of 1936 or the flooding rains of 1951. Something is up when nighttime lows exceed historical daytime highs. That makes it somewhat unsettling, despite the joy provided by stepping out coatless into a January afternoon to be greeted with warming sunshine.
