Kindergarten information meetings De Soto USD 232 will have kindergarten parent information meetings to answer questions and get enrollment packets at the following locations and times: Riverview Elementary, 7 p.m. Monday Starside Elementary, 6:30 p.m. April 27 Parents who are ready for enrollment should bring proof of residency, the child's state certified birth certificate and immunization records. Children who will be 5 on or before Aug. 31, 2006, are eligible to enroll for kindergarten in 2006-2007. Parents who are unsure of their child's home school should call the district office at 583-8300. For more information, visit the district's Web site at www.usd232.org.

Medicare assistance offered Stafford Training and Consulting, through funding from the Kansas Health Consumer Coalition, will offer Medicare Part D outreach assistance to De Soto residents from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the De Soto Senior Center, 32905 W. 84th St. Those interested in assistance are asked to bring a list of current medications. Tire and battery disposal The city of De Soto will offer a tire and battery amnesty day April 28 at the same location as the West Bottoms tree limb disposal site off 79th Street. Old tires and batteries will be accepted Friday only at no charge to De Soto citizens. Citizens must show proof of De Soto residency.

VFW selling bricks De Soto VFW Post 6654 is selling bricks to help pay for a planned memorial. Bricks sell for $40 and will be placed in the circular memorial that will also have plaques for all branches of the U.S. armed services and three flagpoles. Dance set The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6654 will have a dance from 8 to 11:30 p.m. May 5 at the VFW Post, 33725 W. 84th St. Hamburgers and hot dogs can be purchased prior to the dance, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will feature "The Krazy Kats," a classical '50s and '60s rock 'n roll band. Tickets are $8 per person and may be purchased at the door. For more information, call the VFW at 585-1100.

Parents Night Out Victory Place Church provides Parents Night Out from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the De Soto Senior Center, 32905 W. 84th St. The service is for preschoolers to fifth-graders and is free to the community. Donations are accepted. Those planning to participate are asked to drop the youth off at the back side of the building by the aquatic center. English speaking classes Victory Place Church is teaching Hispanics to speak English from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays at the De Soto Senior Center, 32905 W. 84th St. Those planning to attend are asked to enter at the back. English speaking conversation partners are always needed. The classes are free to everyone. Donations are accepted and childcare is provided. Childcare provided.
