Vernon J. Zaring

Services for Vernon J. Zaring, 84, De Soto, were Monday, April 3, at Alden-Harrington Funeral Home in Bonner Springs. Burial was in the Bonner Springs Cemetery.
Mr. Zaring died Wednesday, March 29, 2006, at the Olathe Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 12, 1921, in Ponca City, Okla. He graduated from De Soto High School in 1940.
Mr. Zaring joined the National Guard and later the Army Air Force. He became an Air Force pilot and served for more than 20 years. He flew in Japan for more than 10 years, as well as Okinawa, South Korea, Guam, Bermuda and England.
He was a lifetime member of the Reserve Officers Association of the United States of America, the American Legion Post 153 of Olathe, and the I.B.E.W. Local 226 of Topeka.
He worked as an electrician at Hercules Powder Plant/Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant in De Soto.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion or Hurricane Katrina Relief, sent in care of the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, 214 Oak St., Bonner Springs 66012.
