Ernest Eugene Johnson
Services for Ernest Eugene Johnson, 95, Lawrence, were Monday, June 27, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner. Burial was in Monticello Cemetery in Shawnee.
Mr. Johnson died Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 22, 1909, in Toronto, Kan., the son of James Edward and Judith Lavina McLeod Johnson. He lived in the Kansas City area and La Nape before he moved to De Soto in 1945. He moved to Lawrence in 1992.
Mr. Johnson worked as a truck driver for Yellow Transit in Kansas City, Mo., for 25 years and for Wigglesworth and Watson Brothers Trucking companies. He was also a farmer in La Nape and retired in 1974. He was a member of Lecompton Chapel, Teamsters Local No. 41 and the Masonic Lodge of De Soto.
He married Ethel Mae Bethard on Feb. 17, 1931, in Olathe. She died earlier.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Jean Gleasure, Lawrence; three sisters, Myrtle Puckett, Wellsville, Cecil Jenks, De Soto, and Helen Barthol, Olathe; and two grandsons.
A brother, Clarence "Bill" Johnson, preceded him in death.
